Greenlight’s Paid Media team are winners in Google’s Retail Digital Champions Challenge

Our Paid Media Manager, Ian Oh, and Senior Paid Media Analyst, Simon Prentice, recently took part in Google’s Retail Digital Champions Challenge. The two-month invite-only virtual training programme is run by Google and is offered to its agency partners.

The course aims to help team members become elite practitioners and go-to Google Smart Shopping certified experts for their agencies. The programme helps agencies benefit from the most advanced and up-to-date Smart Shopping training, develop agency-wide knowledge by training colleagues on how to create and optimise Smart Shopping campaigns effectively, and pitch new solutions to clients. Armed with this knowledge, agencies will be able to help their clients to drive more conversions by adopting Google best practices.

Made up of eight different educational modules and a live Q&A session with Google Smart Shopping product experts, the nine-week course ends with each participant running their own Smart Shopping training session internally based on the knowledge they’ve learnt.

During the course, there are three opportunities for participants to win Retail Digital Champion trophies:

  • Hall of Fame: awarded to agencies that achieved over 90% adoption by 30th November 2020.
  • Top Achievers: awarded to the agencies with the highest overall product adoption by 30th November 2020. The closer to 100% adoption growth achieved, the better. Once an agency achieves over 90% adoption, it will move to the Hall of Fame.
  • Strongest Growth: awarded to agencies that grew their baseline adoption of Smart Shopping campaigns the most over the period of 1st October 2020 to 30th November 2020.


We’re thrilled that, representing Greenlight, the team won joint first place with another agency in the Hall of Fame category and first place in the Strongest Growth category.

The knowledge the team has taken away from the training programme will be invaluable in helping us to exercise the most up-to-date Google Smart Shopping practices. We look forward to putting this into practice and continuing to achieve great conversion results for all our clients.
